PennDOT Launches New Effort Aimed at Improving Safety on State Roadways, Says Ross
4/18/2012
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently launched a new effort designed to improve safety on Pennsylvania roadways, Rep. Chris Ross (R-Chester) announced today.

The “Just Drive PA” initiative encourages motorists to “just drive” and concentrate only on the task at hand and eliminate distractions.

According to PennDOT estimates for 2011, more than 14,200 crashes in Pennsylvania involved a distracted driver, with 58 fatalities resulting from those crashes. The “Just Drive” slogan reinforces that distracted driving is dangerous and should be avoided.

It also emphasizes the need to drive safely, wear seat belts and be cognizant of other travelers.

The Just Drive PA website features a “Distracted Driving” page, highlighting the new texting ban and dangers of distracted driving. In addition, the site includes information on programs available for schools, information on law enforcement, public service announcements, and more.
