Grants Available for Alternative Fuel Transportation Projects in Pennsylvania, Says Ross
10/15/2009
Rep. Chris Ross (R-Chester) announced today that grants are now available through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for clean, alternative fuel transportation projects and investment in Pennsylvania’s energy sector.

A total of $7 million is available from the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program (AFIG) for innovative and advanced fuel technology projects that will lead to cleaner transportation throughout the Commonwealth. School districts, municipal authorities, political subdivisions, nonprofit entities, corporations, limited liability companies or partnerships incorporated or registered in Pennsylvania are eligible for the funding.

The funding is approved for a variety of projects, including retrofitting fleet vehicles to operate on alternative fuels, subsidizing the cost of the purchase of an alternative fuel vehicle for a fleet, subsidizing the cost to install fleet refueling equipment for alternative fuel vehicles, and supporting the next phase of advanced research, development and training associated with alternative fuels and of fuel vehicles.

AFIG grants are also available to subsidize school districts, political subdivisions and nonprofit entities for the incremental cost to purchase biofuel, refueling and storage equipment or related tank cleaning.

Qualified renewable fuel producers are also eligible to receive reimbursement of up to 10 cents per gallon of renewable fuels produced in a calendar year up to 12.5 million gallons.

Approved projects may have started on or after July 1, 2009. No project may exceed a period of 24 months and must be completed by June 30, 2011. Applications must be postmarked or received by 4 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2009. Faxed applications will not be accepted.
