Ross Discusses Role of House Urban Affairs Committee
Rep. Chris Ross (R-Chester) was recently named Republican chairman of the House Urban Affairs Committee, and a five-minute video on his Web site, RepRoss.com, explains the importance of that committee.
“The issues of downtown commercial and residential areas affect the boroughs and villages of Chester County just as they do in a larger way in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and finding solutions for the big cities will show us how to make life better locally, too,” Ross said.
“We are an interrelated region,” he said. “What goes on in Philadelphia has a major effect on what happens to us in Chester County. Many of my constituents either work in or go into Philadelphia on a routine basis to shop, to attend sporting events, or to go to museums or arts events. They are frequently in the city and affected by what goes on there.”
The Urban Affairs Committee deals with issues specific to Philadelphia (City of the First Class), Pittsburgh (City of the Second Class), Scranton (Second Class A City) and Pennsylvania’s 53 third-class cities, including Coatesville. These issues are expansive and often include aspects of cultural, economic and sociological matters with which other House committees also work.
“I look forward to serving as a mediator between the legitimate concerns of the more rural areas of the Commonwealth and the cities,” Ross said.
