Rep. Chris Ross (R-Chester) has been named Republican chairman of the House Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.
“With a new administration in the White House and the state and nation facing fiscal challenges, it will be important for governments at all levels to work together,” Ross said. “Cooperation at all levels of government will be essential in stretching every tax dollar.”
The Intergovernmental Affairs Committee considers legislation that is related to relationships among the various levels of government. Some issues that this committee has addressed in recent years include unfunded mandates, workforce development, flag burning, interstate compacts, state sovereignty, and the repeal of outdated and unnecessary statutes.
In the recently completed session of the General Assembly, the committee considered legislation dealing with the implementation of Real ID. The federal act mandates minimum nationwide standards for state driver’s licenses and non-driver identification cards.
Committees are where legislative proposals get their initial review by lawmakers; each bill that is introduced is referred to at least one committee and must be approved by the members of that committee before it can be sent to the full House for consideration.
Ross has been a member of the state House since 1997 and maintains a district office at 692 Unionville Rd. in the Willowdale Town Center in Kennett Square. The telephone number is (610) 925-0555.
The 158th District includes the boroughs of Avondale and Kennett Square and the townships of Caln (1, 2, 3 districts), East Bradford (North), East Marlborough, Kennett, London Britain, New Garden, Newlin, Pennsbury, West Bradford and West Marlborough.
The appointment was made by Republican Leader Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana/Armstrong).
